The purpose of this exercise is to create a firm basis for focusing and planning a project. You can use the exercise when you aim specifically to involve the key actors at an early stage. The participants are the ones who are going to work together to shape and develop the project. The six-sided cube helps the participants literally cover all sides of the project. The exercise raises the fundamental questions that they need to address: who are your users? What does success look like? What are the main challenges? What are your dreams? What are your fears?
1. Identify the questions or aspects of the project you want to address. Form groups of no more than eight members.
2. Turn over the cube and address the questions on all six sides.
3 The participants should first note down their own thoughts and then share them with the group.
4. It may be helpful to assign a note-taker in each group to write a summary of the discussions.
5. In conclusion, each group shares its discussions of the six key issues with the other groups in a plenary session.
