As the world’s population grows and global urbanization is on the rise, we continue to build and generate massive amounts of waste. Globally, 1.3 billion tons of solid waste is generated every year – half of this waste comes from building materials.
The philanthropic association Realdania and the Danish Design Centre are launching the Circular Construction Challenge – a call for innovators to provide new ideas for how we can design and build a world with less waste.
Through a year-long program from August 2018-2019, young innovators will have the chance to realize and bring to market new solutions that will transform the way we think about waste in the built environment.
The winners will have access to a 6-month bootcamp, where they will be assisted by expert mentors to develop their prototype. They will also receive a cash prize of €130,000 to support the development of the protoype and support to scale it and potentially bring it to the global market.
Circular Construction Challenge will kick-off in BLOX, Copenhagen, on August 24. Learn more about the competition and register at circularconstructionchallenge.org.
