The Alexandra Institute, Gehl, the Danish Design Centre and Danish Architecture Centre invite you to a conference for the likes of architects, designers and urban planners with the aim of inspiring participants to contribute to the development of the smart city. As an extension to the Smart City Expo in Barcelona and with the theme of ‘Cities for Citizens’, the conference will focus on how the involvement of citizens and design can play a more important role in cities’ digital solutions.
The day will feature inspirational visions and projects, focusing on the creation of better cities by using technology in new ways. The first half will concentrate on international projects with presentations by Pan Studio and Future Cities Catapult etc. The second half will concentrate on Nordic projects from cities such as Helsinki, Malmø, Oslo, Aarhus and Copenhagen. Three keynote speakers will create the day’s framework: Carlo Ratti , Director of MIT Senseable City Lab is one of the leading experts on how technology shapes our cities and he’ll be giving an overall introduction to the conference. By the end of the day another key note will be held by Daniele Quercia, which Fortune magazine voted one of the most important players in the field of big data, and whose ventures include the project, Happy Maps, about which he has also given a TED talk. Finally the day will be rounded off by Pedro Gadanho, Director of the recently opened Museo de Arte, Arquitectura e Technologia in Lisbon, and former curator at MoMa.
The conference will also include a number of engaging formats: for example, a workshop session, in which participants will get an opportunity to go into the themes of the conference in depth, activating their own practice and professionalism.
