‘How might we ...’questions are helpful for moving from conclusions or challenges to new ideas and possibilities. With a so-called ’How might we ...’question you simply articulate what you would like to find answers or solutions to in the idea development process.
1. Identify the key areas where you see potentials for new solutions, perhaps based on conclusions from a prior study.
2. Brainstorm on different ’How might we ...’questions based on different conclusions. One way to do this might be to ‘flip’ a challenge, that is, turning it into a potential; for example, how might we make the waiting time the most interesting part of a journey? Or by challenging basic assumptions: how might we completely eliminate waiting in a train station?
3. Pick the three or four most important ’How might we ...’questions to be addressed in the following brainstorming session.
